I confess it was Twitter that grabbed my attention, thanks for hooking up via this excellent system. Social Networking sites and Blogs are something people miss at there peril. Throwing sheep around might not seem of value, but trust me on this one - THEY WORK.
Having moved from writting/radio in the UK to now running an international radio station, the value of Blogs and Social Networking sites isn't just a UK thing. People around the world hook-up via FaceBook and Windows Live, not forgetting services like Stickam where we have 89,706 people (not sure if we call them viewers or listeners). One other thing is many of these services do provide accurate data of who is using them.
Try a channel on YouTube and today you can do much of that which TV did and gain great demographic data and results. I know when people are on the channel, for the most part the age, sex and location are easily available to me. This is again most important.
I'm not suggesting the day of print media is over. But what I am suggesting is this.
Do make Blogs, but make sure traditional media talks about them - that's the winning formula. Have Facebook Groups and Fan pages, but share the fact they are there via the radio. Use FaceBook and tell the audience you have a channel - I have tested this to the degree of posting the same video in two places, one has mention on the radio the other not. The difference was nearly 30,000 viewers over a few hundred.
So yes, have Blogs, Twitter, FaceBook, Windows Live, YouTube, Stickam and remember to share the launch and updates via the dish or FM.

Hi,

I was very impressed by the way Barack Obama used social media. For example he has on Twitter 119791 followers and only 263 updates.

Thank you
