Ryanair responds: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/travelnews/4801505/Ryanair-calls-blogger-lunatic.html

"It is Ryanair policy not to waste time and energy in corresponding with idiot bloggers and Ryanair can confirm that it won't be happening again,"

@Jason Thanks for stopping by Jason - would be very interested to learn if anyone at RA gets in touch with you, either publically or privately...

@Andy @Maria I agree guys. It's easy to get caught up in the heat of the moment when someone writes something (publically) about you or your company but, as this demonstrates, the tone and message needs to be spot on otherwise you get in all kinds of trouble!

My mistake! I see that they DID identify themselves as RyanAir staff members. Guess my comments about anonymity don't apply. Sorry!

Of course, some of you could make a valid argument about the annoyance of commenters who don't have all the facts before commenting....go easy on me, please.

It's pretty obvious that the RyanAir staff member(s) who made the offensive comments had no clue that their anonymous comments could be traced back to them. This is clearly a common problem shared by people who use blog comments to spread hate and nastiness. As a blogger who occasionally has to deal with vile commenters, I hope this whole episode wakes them up and makes them a little more responsible for what they post.

In the meantime, I agree: RyanAir has a lot to learn about dealing with the blogosphere.

Ouch. Surely an organisation that needs some corporate guidelines in social media engagement (or just some PR with a clue)
